1. One of your current theories is that alien abductions are, in fact, out-of-body experiences. How did you arrive at this conclusion?
What would you believe if you were sleeping comfortably in your bed and suddenly you are shocked to awareness by powerful energy surges, an intense electrical buzzing sound, and total paralysis. You feel completely out of control and vulnerable as you sense, see or are touched by strange beings. You may even float away from your bed and move through the wall as strange beings observe your every move. Fear overwhelms your mind as you find yourself in an alien environment. When you awaken to physical consciousness, you experience diminishing vibrations and missing time. Of course your mind interprets your strange experience as a physical event. Based on our culture, how would you interpret this experience? I devote an entire chapter in The Secret of the Soul to this topic.
2. What has been your most startling finding from the international out-of-body experience survey you are conducting?
Several things have come to light that I did not expect. The number of participants was the first surprise. The startling similarities between OBEs and the widely reported alien contact and abduction was unexpected. The large number of women that reported out-of-body experiences during child birth. In addition, the high percentage of people that reported contact and communication with loved ones that have died. Also people close to death have a significant increase in out-of-body experiences and contact with loved ones who have died. The universal nature of the vibration state was confirmed as a prelude to OBEs.
3. What is your response to those who fear being physically possessed while out-of-body?
The fear of possession is based on ignorance of facts. People often fear what they don’t understand. In my over thirty years of out-of-body experiences, I have never encountered this issue. In addition, I have received thousands of letters from people without a significant mention of this topic. My survey indicated that only 2% of participants reported this as a fear. Fear of the unknown and seeing a non-physical being was more widespread. The shock of various sleep phenomena, which includes paralysis, loud noises, energy sensations and voices was a much more significant fear issue.
4. Have you had an out-of-body experience, in which you saw something while out-of-body that you were later able to prove and verify?
On many occasions I have received insights during my OBEs that have influenced my physical life. I have received future knowledge of several important events in my life, including the birth of my twin sons and the death of my mother. My out-of-body experiences have changed my life in countless ways. I no longer settle for beliefs of any kind, I now know the truth is always available, however, it is up to us to seek it.
Answers to the important questions of our existence can be experienced and answered during OBEs. What are we? Where do we go at death? Where did we come from? What is our purpose? During an OBE you go beyond beliefs and experience your immortality. Many people receive profound insights concerning the nature of reality, the existence of past lives, some people even explore the multidimensional universe. In addition, meetings with loved ones and visits to other time lines and realities are reported. Most importantly, people report profound spiritual experiences and even self-realization.
5. How old were you when you had your first experience, and what was your initial reaction?
My first self-motivated OBE occurred in 1972 when I was 21 years old. It took me four weeks of daily practice to induce the experience. I used a method called the target technique and focused on three objects as I fell asleep. I vividly imagined myself walking to and touching the objects and held this image as my last conscious thought as I drifted to sleep. Most people can experience an OBE in thirty to sixty days if they practice specific daily methods. Out-of-body experiences have changed my life completely, I know that I can experience the answers for myself and all beliefs are blocks to the truth.
6. Does science support the idea of out-of-body experiences?
OBEs can be verified by personal experience. What better proof can there be. Today many easy and proven methods are now available to initiate the experience. Millions of people have confirmed this reality for themselves. Science remains focused on matter and continues to largely ignore non-physical exploration.
7. Do out-of-body experiences support ideas found in religion?
Out-of-body experiences are presented throughout the Bible and the Koran. For example, the book of Revelations begins “I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day”. The author then describes detailed mystical experiences far beyond the physical world. In Second Corinthians 12, Paul speaks about someone being caught up in the third heaven and makes the statement, “whether in the body or out of the body”. Even the much quoted biblical statement, “You must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven” can be explained by OBEs. The famous term “born again” is an accurate description for what it feels like to have an out-of-body experience and heaven is certainly a reality beyond the body. I devote an entire chapter to this topic in The Secret of the Soul.
8. Are you planning another book? If so, what will it explore?
I am currently writing two books, one is non-fiction and one is a novel based upon a comatose young man who has profound out-of-body experiences. In addition, I would like to invite everyone to participate in the OBE survey and Forum located on my web sites.
