OBE NEWSLETTER – February 2005
This month is my one-year anniversary living in Shanghai, China and my thoughts turn to what I have learned during the year. One important quality I have gained is a much deeper appreciation for my life. In Asia, I have seen countless episodes of people scraping to survive in very tough conditions. In my travels, I have observed a wide variety of people and I can't help but wonder what are the life lessons provided by starch poverty and severely limited opportunities? There must be a deeper purpose to it all.
As I grow older, I also recognize that the small things in life can have a tremendous impact on our state of consciousness. For an example, during December I visited Bangkok, Thailand. Each morning I would board a public water taxi and explore this fascinating city. Every day a kaleidoscope of humanity would be waiting at the dock. One particular day, after boarding the crowded boat, I stood in the back next to a middle aged, orange robed monk. He had a weathered face, a bald head and a thin scraggly beard. We stood next to one another for some time watching the exotic sights of the colorful waterfront. I glanced up and noticed a small-posted sign that read “reserved for monks”. Feeling a little out of my comfort zone I said to him, “It’s a beautiful day.” He stared at me for what seemed like an eternity and spoke in Thai and then in broken English. “Every day is a beautiful day”. He then smiled and bowed. I was speechless. He exited at the next stop and I continued on my way down the river. It sounds so simple but that moment had a tremendous impact on me. His words echoed in my mind. What a profound viewpoint to hold in our daily life. How often do we focus on our many problems instead of the good and beautiful things that surround us? How often do we take our lives for granted? This is especially powerful when you realize that what we focus upon in our daily life is what rapidly expands in our personal reality. This brief experience was a powerful reminder to me that my internal and external life is always connected, my daily life does indeed respond to my mental and emotional projections. The bottom line is this, don’t take your life for granted, believe me there are billions of people out there that would love to change places with you immediately. In fact, there are millions of people that would love to experience your so-called “bad days.” The key is to appreciate the countless freedoms and opportunities you are presented. Appreciate every moment of your life. Focus on the positive and beautiful in your life and they will expand all around you. This is just the way the universe works.
In addition to my travels, I am currently researching and writing about several subjects, including past lives, profound OBEs and spiritual experiences. I am especially intrigued by the connection between the topics. Why do some people have these experiences and some do not. The answer goes deeper then you may think.
If you have had a profound metaphysical experience that involved any form of healing, past lives, a higher self experience or communication with an unborn child or passed loved one, please feel free to email me your experiences. My email address is williambuhlman@mach1audio.com.
